Project

Projects

This was a major project for Tainui Group and their intended tenant, with it being their largest office building in New Zealand at that point in time. Hawkins were appointed as the constructor, and worked alongside GHD Woodhead on the interior fitout segment of the project.

Colourform Joinery worked on the fitout of nine sections of the building, including six tea-bays, two kitchen islands, three social kitchen hubs, including this one, along with a Wellness Room, Parenting Room, Faith Room and the Reception containing Corian benchtops.

The architects were looking for durability and a product that projected a sense of permanence. Naturally, Corian is very effective in all of the spaces listed as a work surface and its durability and repairability made it an obvious choice.

Prefinished Surfaces worked closely with Colourform's team on the staged timing of the building, floor by floor and section by section. While a very straightforward and uncomplicated built overall, it was a massive project and Covid and other factors added complexity. Slab-matching ensured colour consistency across the project and a completely seamless finish on the different surfaces across the building.

In words of the joiner: "We couldn't have achieved the results we got and the same effect without the characteristics of Corian."

The social hub kitchen, with a more than ten metre span, made up of two units of over five metres each features Corian "Salt" and a fantastic seamless finish across both of the sections. It is a very high traffic easy-to-maintain area that will be enjoyed by many.
